Kent Welkener Plano, Texas December 15, 2009 | | Arlene - Russ was such a genuine, honest, humble man. I would call him about work issues and end up talking half an hour about life. Religion, politics, hobbies; no subject was off limits for Russ. Thank you for keeping some of Russ' Dallas-area colleagues informed of his condition since his retirement. You are a dear woman for your devotion to him. |

Carol Preney Brown Phippsburg, Maine December 15, 2009 | | Even though I do not remember Russ, ( I must have met him at family gatherings as a child) I feel like I know him from the e-mails sent to me by his dear wife Arlene. I know he lived a very full life, and was loved by many. This is something that cannot be not taken for granted these days. He is at peace now. |

Steve & Gloria Andruszkewicz Ventura, CA December 16, 2009 | | Dear Arlene, our deepest sympathies to you and Russ' many family members, friends and former US Navy shipmates.
As evidenced by his many accomplishments and life experiences, Russ was a very special man. We celebrate his life and hope you all will take comfort that Russ is now at peace with his Lord and Savior. It was an honor to have served with him as LIFETIME Members of the VP-4 Veterans Association to which both of you dedicated years of volunteer service.
Respectfully, |

Dr. Cal (C.B.) Harris El Paso, Texas December 16, 2009 | | Dear Arlene, I checked into the Skinny Dragons (VP-4) just a few months before he left but recall him well. We were part of the new "AW" rating and loved flying in the P-3.
My recollection of Russ is that he was a calm "peacemaker" that was always into the solution and not the problem.
Accept my deepest sympathy but know that Russ now has the wind to his back and is on a following sea. No sailor could ask for more. I sure he is in heaven fixing things as we write.

Gary D. Allen Brentwood, TN December 16, 2009 | | We spent Russ's entire tour in VP-4 following each other
during 1966-1969. I was a AX-1 and also a ham radio operator, flew with crew-11. Russ was a gentleman of the
highest values and one you trusted.
HIS blessings be with Russ. |

Richard Pagnillo Monterey, CA December 16, 2009 | | Arlene. Very sorry to hear about Russ. He was the jez operator on my crew for one of the Iwakuni deployments. A very capable and dependable crew member. Enjoyed our time together at Las Vegas at the reunion. I never knew he was from WV which is where I am from also - no wonder he was such a great guy. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Pag |

Our prayers are with you and your family . Russ was a good friend and crewmember. Our time spent in VP-4 crew 8 had a lot of good memorys. Russ is up in the sky with our PPC LCDR J.E. McCauley talking over old times. We trusted him to fly us any where. One of our last missions I remember was a Christmas eve flight in Vietnam in 1968. Though we did not make the Las Vegas reunion it was great to see you an Russ at the Va. one. Please keep in touch an give us a call when you come to Maine next time. |

I will miss seeing Russ going for his walks morning and
evening. He was a good man and friendly, he always
spoke to me. I remember how friendly he was when
he first moved in he came over and introduced himself
and talked to us for a while. He helped my husband set
up our computer and we went out with him and Arlene
a couple of times and set together at the club. when my
husband was in the nursing home he visited him and
attended his Memorial service. He called me when I took
him a card and flowers from my own Yard and he told
me he was getting so weak. I told him God could help
him and he told me He knew he could. May he rest in
heaven wnere there is no pain and sorrow and enjoy
the happiness of being in that wonderful place.
